Fractional CO2 at the womens Health Centre

After a successful first 18 months with Mona Lisa Touch, the Womens Health Centre is introducing fractional CO2 laser to the Waikato.
It is fast-recovery laser treatment for the reduction of the effects of sun and aging, targeting fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation and scarring on areas such as the face including the eye area, neck, and hands. The fractional laser is delivered using the DOT therapy system. This is where the energy is focused on a pre-determined network of points, negating the need to treat the entire skin surface. The benefit of this is that the effects of the treatment, redness, swelling and discomfort, last only a few days as opposed to months like before. These effects can also be masked with cosmetics immediately. DOT therapy is characterised by hundreds of small rays of laser energy that pierce the skin surface, naturally stimulating the body to produce collagen. This in effect visibly smooths fine lines and wrinkles, scarring and pigmentation.

DOT therapy fractional laser is suitable for all skin types, with the treatment being modified to the specific needs of each patient. An anaesthetic cream is liberally applied to the treatment area an hour prior to the procedure and all that should be felt is a slight stinging for a fraction of a second. Results are permanent however the effects will gradually diminish with the natural aging process. A subsequent treatment on the same area is not contra-indicated so with little effort the fantastic results can be retained.
At the Womens Health Centre you will been seen by a doctor to discuss the process and what is involved in the treatment.Should you decide to go ahead with a treatment you will be seen by a skin specialist who will individually assess your skin type and discuss your 2 week ‘skin prep’ regime to follow prior to your treatment. There are also many do’s and don’ts that will be discussed with you prior to any treatment being undertaken. A post treatment regime will also be discussed. There is no charge for the consultations however any product required will be charged.

How Can We Assist You?

Here Are Our Frequently Asked Questions

The MonaLisa Touch is a carbon dioxide fractional laser specifically designed to treat vaginal tissue. Similar to laser facial treatments, the procedure uses lasers to make micro-abrasions or tiny scratches in the vaginal wall, which stimulate growth of new blood vessels.

There are very few side effects. Most women tolerate their treatment very well. Some experience minor, temporary side effects such as mild vaginal bleeding, vaginal discharge, tenderness, itching, or burning.

A consultation costs $120 online or $200 face to face. Each treatment costs $600. Your consultation costs will be deducted from your treatment if you choose to go ahead. Most women require 3 treatments for the first year and yearly treatments thereafter. Mona Lisa Touch is NOT covered by insurance.

We have had over 200 patients through the clinic. Of these 160 have stated that the benefits have been life changing. 36 have had improvement and 4 reported no real change. i.e. a 98% success rate.

Because the basic problem is the lack of oestrogen and aging after the menopause the vagina will eventually deteriorate once again. It is suggested that an annual top up is done. If it is left much longer than a year, you may require 3 treatments again.

Most patients notice a 50% improvement in symptoms within 6 weeks after the first treatment, this will continue following subsequent treatments.

How long does the treatment take?

The actual treatment takes only about 5 minutes and does not usually require the use of anaesthesia unless external treatment is to occur or there is vaginismus. Getting the laser into the vagina usually is what takes up the time. There is also no downtime associated with this treatment. You'll be able to get right back to your regular schedule immediately.

Some women experience a watery discharge or light spotting for a day or two. The vaginal area may feel swollen or full. Do not put anything inside your vagina for at least 5 days after treatment. Do not have baths or use a jacuzzi during this time. There are microscabs in the vagina which if removed can cause bleeding or infection.
